I just want to say that I don't usually read mafia themed books but I took a chance with one. The book was gripping as the tale between Igor and Maryruth grew from the minute Igor played eyes on Maryruth, he was captivated by her. Beneath all the mafia plot lays a true romance novel. Igor found himself going for a ride on a emotional rollercoaster and actually believed himself as becoming a different man. You will, cry, scream, and fall in love while reading this book. I would recommend reading this book if you love romance and terror at the same time!I received a free copy of this book as a ARC and voluntarily chose to review it.

Ruthless A Sins of the Rex Prequel by Emma Slate is a Mafia Romance

Olaf has groomed Igor from a young age to be his heir. Igor is deeply unhappy and tries to drown out his sorrow with women and alcohol. Until he met Maryruth. Maryruth joined Igor in a sauna one day, and they got to chatting and never stopped. Igor is intrigued by the beautiful Maryruth but his father has other plans for Igor that involve marriage with Katherine, the daughter of a powerful mafia leader, in order to expand his empire. Igor has never felt this way about a woman before, and chooses Mary over Katherine. But is Olaf willing to accept Igor's decision?
Ruthless is a riveting story of heartbreaking loss and powerful love. Emma Slate's portrayal of the mafia world full of fascinating characters had me hooked from the start. I highly recommend this book.

This novella definitely should be read before Sins of the Rex book 1. I received a free copy of this novella or I might have been reluctant to read it since I knew part of Igor’s story. I read Sins of the Rex first and felt there was so much more to Igor Dolinsky in that book but his character fit where it did at the time. Even though he was the villain you still had to have a little bit of feelings for him. Have a box of tissue handy when you see where he came from and where he goes.
In this novella you get his background and a little of Sasha’s. This story should be read first since it is really a love story. I wish I had read it first. It shows Igor in such a different light and really explains how circumstance sometimes makes a person who they are not necessarily who they want to be. Igor really shines thru with Maryruth. She is such a bright light in his dark life. I also liked how you got to understand Sasha a little and it makes what happens with him in Sins of the Rex 1 more tearful also. The story is told so you will be sitting on the edge of your chair all the way through because you sort of know what is going to happen yet you really hope it is different. On its own this is a really good story even through the tears. I would say that anyone reading this has to read Sins of the Rex 1 to understand why this story had to end the way it did. I can’t give anymore of an overview to this story without a lot of spoilers but I will say I highly recommend both books. Just be prepared for so much emotion. This is a voluntary review.

Loved this book, even though it didn't have an HEA. Needed a few tissues for the ending.
Had mixed feelings about him in SINS of the Rex, so was nice to see him as human in this book. Would have loved to see him with a happily ever after, but still loved the books.
This storie was full of loving and caring the kind every romantic women wants in her life. To have someone that can make you feel that special in life is awesome.
This story will make you smile and cry, and if your like me be thankful to have found such a wonderful book to fill you in so many different ways!
I really feel for Igor Dolinsky. What a great guy who went through a life of sorrow, starting at a young age. The dog bite incident proves how much he loved and adored his wife!!!!! I didn't want this book to end. I need more Emma!!!! Your writing is exceptional!!!!
